With over 25 years in motorsports, B1ackwater all started with the legendary 1987 Buick Grand National. The Buick came from the factory with a 3.8L V6 Turbo in all black trim that became to be known as "murdered out." Shortly after, curiosity of increased power output led to an obsession with boost controllers. Next came the Mitsubishi Starion 2.0 Turbo. However, it was the performance of the V6 turbo that inspired our founder, Lawrence in 2000, to buy a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4; a V6 twin turbo with a sophisticated all wheel drive/all wheel steering system. Despite the VR4 being over shadowed by the Toyota Supra's bullet proof 2JZ inline 6, he never given up on the V6 twin turbo.

Over the next two decades B1ackwater would put the VR4 thru a multitude of builds and turbo setups with ECUs to match. This led to a AEM V2 Engine Management System with a one off B1ackwater Motorsports rolling anti-lag tune, a world 1st. Because the VR4's engine was transversely mounted, the engine bay was more complex than most other V6 engine bays. This was a problem that needed to be solved so as time went on, organizing and cleaning up the engine bay became an obsession. We began to pay attention to every detail. Thru years of research and development, with help from some great vendors, B1ackwater built one of the cleanest, most reliable, and well-known AEM V2, twin Garrett-turbocharged 3000GT VR4's in the world.

As time moved on, we continued to push the envelope.  Fellow enthusiasts often asked our founder what platform would be his next muse, his answer was always the same. "V6, twin turbo, and all wheel drive." Then in 2009, another V6, twin turbo, all wheel drive hit the scene...the mythical Nissan R35 GT-R. This brings us to where we are today. When asked to describe the differences between two, in Lawrence's words, "the VR4 is a flip phone, the GT-R is a smartphone."
